Via Stephen Taylor, a highlight from the Hansard:

Mr. Joe Comartin (Windsor–Tecumseh, NDP): Mr. Speaker, yesterday 60 Canadian border guards were forced to walk off four Canadian border crossings because an armed and dangerous criminal was approaching the border.

Mr. Derek Lee (Scarborough-Rouge River, Lib.): That’s because they are a bunch of wimps.

The Hon. member from Scarborough-Rouge River is clearly made of sterner stuff than our wimpy border guards, who feel that it’s unreasonable to be expected to stop armed bad guys equipped only with flashlights and reflective windbreakers.

So, here’s a solution.  Next time  maniac with a Born To Lose tat and a loaded Tec goes charging towards the Peace Bridge, Derek Lee can guard it.  We’re sure that his machismo and the mandate of Scarborough voters will be enough to protect him from bullets.

Amen on the comment from this site. Its easy to sit behind a desk and insult the unequipped officers who guard the borders everyday and face a slew of drugs, firearms, criminals, etc. everyday.

  2. London says:

True enough, but who’s afraid of facing a slew of drugs?
